Who Is Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert is a famous American actor, singer, and songwriter who rose to prominence in 2009 after his performance at the eighth season of American Idol. The runner up went on to release more than 3 million albums and 5 million singles all over the world. Shortly after his appearance in the “American Idol”, Lambert released his first studio project – “For Your Entertainment”.

Born in Indiana, Adam went from midwestern boy to California dude before he could talk—his family moved to San Diego, California when he was still a baby. From when the youngster was only 10 years old he gravitated toward the dramatic and laid an acting foundation when he began performing in local theater productions.

But Adam’s exposure to the stage only fueled his desire to make it big as a performer. Adam began taking voice lessons and nabbing roles in classic local musical productions like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Grease.

American Idol Beginnings

The glamorous pop star tore up the American Idol stage before landing himself in the hot seat for a controversial performance as well as among Billboard‘s top artists.

Years earlier, Adam performed throughout high school and headed to college—but he only latest five weeks before dropping out to give his dream a real shot. Like most aspiring entertainers, Adam moved to L.A. where struggled to stay afloat financially while auditioning for musicals as well as joining a rock band. But by 2004, Adam’s hard work was beginning to pay off when he began landing roles in large-scale theater and music productions.

Hoping to put his years of vocal training to the test, in 2009 Adam auditioned for the eighth season of the star-making show American Idol. For his audition Adam paid tribute to his musical icons, Queen, with his rendition of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ It was enough to get him a golden ticket to Hollywood and beyond. Throughout the competition Adam wowed the judges (and even got a standing ovation from Simon Cowell) but made headlines for a different reason when photos of the ostentatious star kissing another man surfaced.

In a Rolling Stone cover story Adam later reiterated that his was, in fact, openly gay so it was up to America to decide whether they would make an openly gay man their American Idol—an unprecedented feat. Although Adam ultimately didn’t make Idol history, coming in second place, the world embraced this talented rock/pop artist and record sales of his first album, For Your Entertainment, proved he was an idol after all.

Getting Frisky And Making Waves

Adam landed a performance slot for the 2009 American Music Awards but made more than just a splash with his music. In the adrenaline-filled live performance, Adam kissed his male band mate and also simulated oral sex with a female dancer. The provocative moves didn’t go by unnoticed and Adam received quite the backlash. ABC received thousands of complaints and Adam was not invited back to the network the following morning for his scheduled appearance on Good Morning America.

But the scandal only furthered Adam’s notoriety—infamous or famous—and he geared up for his first solo tour, Glam Nation, in June of 2010. The studded and sequined performer keeps fans glued to his every move, reminding them of the true art of performance—or, he’s so sparkly they just can’t look away.

Defining Quote “I’m not trying to lead the f**king way for the civil rights movement that we’re in right now. I just happen to be a gay man.”
