Who Is Carey Mulligan

She’s pretty and poised and every bit deserving of the title, Hollywood “it” girl, but not too long ago, it was more “Carey Mulligan?” than “Carey Mulligan!” She’s already got an Oscar nom and a high-profile romance with an A-list star under her belt and she’s ready to break out.

We calculate Carey Mulligan has a net worth of $18 million dollars, as of 2020.

Hotel And Career Hopping

Carey Hannah Mulligan grew up calling Europe’s finest hotels “home.” When she was three, she moved from England to Germany so her dad could manage a number of InterContinental hotels there. And, not unlike her later Oscar-nominated character, Carey was sent to a leading girls’ high school in Surrey before she secretly applied to drama schools—she had caught the acting bug when she saw her brother perform in a school play.

Three auditions later, she only heard rejections and reluctantly applied and was accepted to university. But Carey was still determined to continue on the path toward the silver screen. An English actor Julian Fellowes had previously visited her high school for a talk so Carey contacted the actor to see if he could lend a hand to an aspiring actress.

Pride And An Education

And lend a hand he did. Fellowes contacted every agent and casting director he knew and in a few hours, Carey had landed an audition for Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley. It wasn’t long before she landed the role of ‘Kitty,’ the lead character’s little sister. From there, she went on to star in the 2009 film that would make her a household name, An Education. In the film, Carey played a British teenager attending an academic intensive all-girls school when she is seduced by the glamour and charm of an older man, played by Peter Sarsgaard. The film earned Carey Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for Best Actress.

A-List Hollywood

Sealing her stamp as the newest fixture to the Hollywood landscape, Carey was cast alongside Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the sequel to the ‘80s classic. Like so many other young girls, she fell for her on-screen love interest, LaBeouf, off-screen. Carey and Shia dated for more than a year before they called it quits.

From Vogue covers to award show nominations, Carey has made it from relative nobody to the name on every director’s lips in such a short time, we can only imagine that she’ll skyrocket to fame from here.

Defining Quote “I do this thing: I have a scrapbook every time I do a film where I fill it with pictures, and I write stuff and it makes me feel like I’m really prepared.”
