Who Is Christina Hendricks
Fiery red hair and a voluptuous body are what immediately spring to mind when one hears Christina Hendricks’ name. But this rising star is proving that she’s much more than just a pretty package thanks to her award-winning portrayal of Joan Holloway on AMC’s 1960s-era smash hit Mad Men.
We calculate Christina Hendricks has a net worth of about $10 million dollars, as of 2020.
The Gothic Age
Christina Rene Hendricks was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. She relocated to Twin Falls, Idaho when she was in the third grade, and then to Fairfax, Virginia as a teen. Moving to Fairfax and dealing with preppy new classmates was hard on Hendricks, and she found acting to be the perfect outlet when she was ostracized for dressing goth in high school. After graduation, Hendricks made the risky decision to skip the books and head to New York City to pursue a modeling career.
From Skinny Mini To Office Vixen
Hendricks found moderate success as a svelte, size four model, partially due to her enviable crimson locks, which she dyed from her natural blonde when she was 10 because of her obsession with the novel Anne of Green Gables. But the industry was tough on full-figured girls and Hendricks faced significant pressure to lose weight. In the end, Hendricks decided to ditch the runway and go back to her first love, acting.
Her early years in the biz were filled with fruitless auditions and typical Hollywood struggles, but she powered through and made her debut in 1999 in the TV movie Sorority. She followed up with a gig on MTV’s sexy late night show Undressed and was a regular on the short lived series Beggars and Choosers. She continued to work the TV circuit with starring roles in small screen movies like The Big Time and Hunger Point and with guest starring roles in Angel, ER, Firefly, Miss Match and Without a Trace.
In 2007, Hendricks landed the role of office manager Joan Holloway on The Sopranos creator Matthew Weiner’s new project, Mad Men. The show was a runaway success and Christina was critically praised for her portrayal of Joan, a deeply flawed but extremely popular character who battles sexism and infidelity. The show has won Emmys and a Golden Globe in the Outstanding Drama category, and Hendricks received an Emmy nom for Best Supporting Actress.
Hendricks’ popularity has soared and her famous curves got the big screen treatment in 2011, starring opposite Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan in Drive and in Tony Kaye’s drama Detachment with Oscar-winner Adrien Brody. She is also gearing up to make her return to modeling as the spokesmodel for Vivienne Westwood.
Though Hendricks earns raves for her acting, it’s her voluptuous figure that seems to be on everyone’s minds. Hendricks’ curvaceous body can be seen gracing magazine covers from New York Magazine toGQ. Her full figure has become so desirable that the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons has named Hendricks a potential influence for the 10% rise in breast augmentation surgery in the UK in 2010.
But despite Joan Holloway’s lax take on relationships, Christina is a one-man woman. In 2008, she announced that she was engaged to longtime boyfriend Geoffrey Arend, who she met through Mad Men co-star Vincent Kartheiser. The couple tied the knot on October 11, 2009 in New York.
Defining Quote “I had agents who were like, ‘You have to lose some weight,’ and all of a sudden, people are celebrating it. It’s like: ‘Oh, thank you! Thank you for letting me be me.'”
