Who Is David Archuleta
He’s the pint-sized, all-American cutie who stole our hearts on American Idol with his stellar voice and humble personality. Now all this soulful singer has to do is find a budding starlet to share his success with—don’t even get us started on playing matchmaker for this adorable bachelor.
David Archuleta has a ballpark figure net worth of $5 million dollars, as of 2020.
The Archuleta Family Singers
Born in the heart of the sunshine state, Miami, Florida David along with his four siblings were raised by a musician father, and Latin dancer/singer mother. A modern Sound of Music, the family was always surrounded by music and song. Around the same time that David began singing, when he was six years old, the family packed up and headed from Miami to Utah where David began entering (and winning) local talent competitions.
David’s family recognized that he had a special gift and when he was 12, he made it on the popular talent show Star Search. David was crowned the Junior Vocal Champion, which engrained in him a need to perform. Following his Star Search success, David began appearing on a number of talk shows and also started to record his own original material.
Almost An Idol
But things began to heat up for the star-quality singer when he auditioned for American Idol in 2007—even though he forgot the words to John Mayer’s ‘Waiting on the World to Change’ during his audition. David continued to advance throughout the competition but as the stakes rose, David’s dad got a little too fired up. Jeff Archuleta was accused of being an overbearing stage dad who was not giving David the proper freedom for him to really be himself on the show. American Idol execs tried to limit Jeff’s participation in the show but because David was still a minor, they had little clout.
David made it to the final three but, in the end, took second place to season seven winner, David Cook. But David didn’t go home empty-handed—he landed a record deal with Jive Records and in November of 2008 released his first eponymous record. David went on to tour with tween superstar Demi Lovato, made it to number two on the Billboard charts with his single ‘Crush’ and made appearances on hit shows like iCarly and Hannah Montana. The following year, David released Christmas from the Heart (2009) before The Other Side of Down in 2010. But in early 2011, David was dropped from his label, Jive Records, due to disappointing records sales.
As for his love life, David is playing it cool as a single guy who’s just focusing on his music. Although he admits that he’s never had a girlfriend, there are definitely thousands of girls who would be willing to step up to the task. For now, David’s first love will just have to be his music—and for that, we applaud him.
Defining Quote “I’ve never been in a relationship. People ask me all the time: ‘What is the perfect girl? What do you look for?’ They’ll say, ‘Do you prefer blond or brunette? Do you like brown eyes or blue?’ It’s like, what does that really matter, really?”
