Who Is Denise Richards
While her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, is usually the one landing her on the pages of tabloid magazines, the sultry sex symbol has had her own fair share of scandal. Her name conjures up accusations of stealing Heather Locklear’s husband, exploiting her kids on a reality show and, of course, her topless lesbian Wild Things scene with Neve Campbell.
Denise Richards has a net worth ballparked at $10 million dollars, as of 2020.
The leggy blond was born in Downers Grove, Illinois before moving, when she was 15-years-old, to Oceanside, California where she attended high school. There, she began modeling and moved to L.A. after she graduated to pursue an acting career. She landed a series of small roles in low budget films and also snagged a few walk-on roles in TV shows like Saved by the Bell and Married with Children. But her big break came in 1997 with the release of Starship Troopers, a space-age film in which Denise played the sexy Captain Carmen Ibanez.
Although Starship Troopers was more fizzle than sizzle, her next role in the 1998 cult film, Wild Things, in which she played the poster child for a sexy, conniving double-crosser, Kelly Van Ryan, put her on the map. It seemed like she had arrived when she went on to play a Bond girl in The World is Not Enough, but her unconvincing performance as a brainy nuclear physicist landed her a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress instead.
Fresh off the heels of a lackluster role, Denise once again tried her hand at TV sitcoms appearing on Spin City and Friends. Around that time, she met notorious bad boy Sheen on the set of the straight-to-video movie Good Advice and the two instantly became a hot Hollywood item. Despite his reputation, they married in June 2002 and it looked like Sheen was finally leaving his embattled past behind and settling down. Denise’s acting career was starting to founder and, banking on her sex symbol status, Denise went on to land roles as sexy bimbo roles in spoofs like Undercover Brother and Scary Movie 3. In 2004, she fully embraced her image when she took it all off for Playboy magazine—only five months after giving birth to her first daughter, Sam. And, although she was a key ingredient in more than a few film flops, she didn’t lose any credibility from her male admirers—in 2001, she came in 9th on Maxim’s 50 Sexiest Women list.
In 2005, while pregnant with their second daughter, their relationship became a rollercoaster of break-ups and make-ups before Denise filed for divorce from Sheen citing that she feared for her children’s and her own safety. Denise later disclosed that Sheen had made death threats and she filed for a restraining order against her estranged husband.
But it would later appear that Sheen wasn’t the only one going off the deep end. In November of 2006, police were called to Denise’s movie set where she reportedly threw two photographers’ laptops over a balcony before they hit two elderly women—no one was seriously injured and no charges were filed.
Wanting to get a fresh start and show the world who she really was—a “family first” kind of gal—in 2008, Denise agreed to star in a reality show, Denise Richards: It’s Complicated. And, in 2009, she appeared on the 8th season of Dancing with the Stars—finally, a gig that her daughters could watch.
Denise continues to draw speculation and controversy, whether it’s allegations that she had an affair with Richie Sambora while he was married to her then-best friend Locklear or she shouldn’t have exposed her children to the reality TV spotlight or it’s talking about another one of her ex’s crazy antics. But it keeps her in the public eye and, let’s face it, her career definitely won’t.
