About Post Malone

Austin Richard Post, known by his stage name Post Malone, was born on July 4, 1995 in Syracuse, New York. His introduction to the music scene came from his father Rich Post, who was a DJ when he was younger. Rich introduced Austin to the sounds and artists from country, rock, and even hip-hop, a genre that Post would soon be charting under.

In 2020, Post Malone has an estimated net worth of $15 million dollars.

What makes him so successful?

From humble beginnings to the Hollywood Hills, Post’s story is one of soul-searching, failure, rap name generators, and risk-taking. Rather than go to school and pursue normality, Post knew that he was capable of great things and so did his high school classmates.

Although reception of his early works was mixed, Post stayed on course, and when the music video of his song, White Iverson, hit one million views in a month, he was quickly placed on the radar of record labels. While primarily a rapper, Post uses his rare gift smearing country, rock, rap, hip hop, and grunge into extraordinarily melodic tunes that often has a melancholic edge to them. Post says his music is ‘genreless’. In the past few years, no one has come close to churning out consecutive hits like Post. At his relatively young age, Post already boasts some 37 hit songs. Perhaps it’s the melancholic edge to these songs that makes it hard for his critics to write him off.

Post has a lot left to show us as he develops his career. If you could learn anything from Post, it should be that uncertainty breeds curiosity… and in that curiosity, you may just find what you’re meant to be.

Post Malone once said this: “I was an individual, people don’t like that when you’re different from them… only you can appreciate the genius that is you.” The lesson here is that you need to believe in yourself and focus on yourself. People may not understand you in the beginning, but if you’re truly passionate, they’ll soon learn to get you.

How did he get so famous?

In 2010, Post took an interest in the guitar and auditioned for the band Crown the Empire. During his audition, the strings on his guitar broke, resulting in a rejection for the audition. This didn’t stop Post from continuing to perform as he would go on to perform at various music events and DJ sets for years to come.

When he was 14 or 15, Post used a rap name generator to get the name Post Malone – Post being his last name and Malone, the product of random chance. Using Audacity, Post released his first mixtape at age 16 titled Young and After Them Riches. When he showed it to his friends at Grapevine High School, they ironically voted him the Most Likely to Become Famous.

After high school, Post enrolled in Tarrant County College where he would soon drop out. It was at this point that Post decided to move to Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles, Post formed the music group BLCKVRD with fellow musicians. Through this group, Post made connections with the producer that would change his life – Rex Kudo.

Together, Rex and Post would create the song White Iverson (2015) that broke Post Malone into the mainstream. The music video for the song quickly generated massive success, hitting over 1 million views in just a month. This success attracted various record labels to Post and he eventually chose to sign on with Republic Records in August of 2015.

Under Republic Records, Post worked with popular names like Kanye West, Justin Bieber, 50 Cent, and even performed for Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday party. In 2016, Post would release the album that made him a household name for hip hop – Stoney. Stoney featured hit songs like Congratulations with Quavo (#8 on the Billboard Hot 100), I Fall Apart, Big Lie, and Déjà Vu with Justin Bieber.

Since the release of Stoney, Post has proved that he is no stranger to creating hit records. His subsequent album releases Beerbongs and Bentleys and Hollywood’s Bleeding would see songs find their way onto Billboard’s Hot 100.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact thing that makes Post Malone so likable… perhaps it’s his unique blend of hip hop and rock or his charming personality. While some older folks may be somewhat turned off by his face-tattoos, the younger generation can’t seem to get enough of Posty. Despite his success, Post remains humble and once said: “A little self-deprecation goes a long way”.

How did Post Malone get rich?

As of 2020, Post Malone’s net worth is estimated to be around $15 million; the majority of which came from earnings made from album sales, touring, merchandising, and brand collaborations. The success of Post Malone was not an overnight success, in fact, it was a process that was years in the making with equal parts in controversy and celebration.

Although White Iverson was a smashing success in 2015, it was met with initial criticism that painted Post a “culture-vulture”. A culture-vulture is typically the name given to white artists who borrow from African American influence to drive success, thereby drawing attention away from black artistry.

These claims were typically backed by conjecture and judgment of Post’s appearance rather than the content of his music/character. Ironically, a majority of Post’s successes were collaboratively built with black artists and producers.

Under the surface, Post Malone is an emotional, caring, and humble guy. His second album Beerbongs & Bentleys is less about flexing, partying, and substance abuse and more about the emotions associated with his newfound lifestyle.

On the track Paranoid, Post raps: “A paranoid man makes paranoid plans, I’ll do what I can but it’s out of my hands”. This paranoia stems from Post’s uncertainty about the people around him; Post questions whether or not people are there because of his character or his bank account.

The album also calls into question the love that he had for a girl who Post believed would never leave him because of his success, but he was heartbrokenly wrong. Emotions like heartbreak and paranoia help Post drive a sense of genuineness although he juxtaposes it with diamonds, sports cars, and mansions.

It’s easy to judge Post Malone from his face-tattoos and exquisite watch collection. However, it takes a great deal of courage to make music about emotions that reveal weakness. Post Malone is an incredibly relatable artist with many years and projects left to look forward to.

Summing-Up

From dropping out to couch surfing in LA, Post Malone has transformed himself into a household name that commands hit records, sold-out shows, and a rock star life-style that would make any father proud.

  1. I really love the tone of Post Malone’s tracks… but I thought he was worth a lot more money. I’ve seen estimates of his net worth as high as $37 million and some people also have put him as low as $5 million. One thing is for sure if he continues to drop epic tracks then this guy is gonna be worth hundreds of millions one day. MM
