Who Is Renée Zellweger
She’s the sultry-eyed blonde bombshell who’s been known to pack it on or take it off for her roles. But whether she’s a skinny mini or a buxom babe, we’re always first in line when her name’s on the marquee.
American actress Renée Zellweger has a net worth of $100 million dollars, as of 2020.
Texas Born And Texas Bred
Born in Katy, Texas to a Swiss engineer father and Norwegian nurse mother, Renée’s passion for acting was sparked when she joined her high school drama club. Having made her mind to pursue acting as a career and sticking to her Southern roots, after graduation Renée decided to give it a go in her home state rather than packing up and moving to Hollywood. Her decision to stick around paid off; she landed roles in movies like the cult hit Reality Bites, campy horror flick The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (alongside another future star Matthew McConaughey) and Empire Records in the early ‘90s.
But Renée’s big break came in 1996 when she scored the role as a starry-eyed single mom who comes into her own in the romantic dramedy Jerry Maguire opposite Tom Cruise. The performance earned the recognition she needed to jumpstart an Oscar-worthy career.
Following the role that put her name on the tip of every director’s tongue, Renée went on to nab parts in One True Thing (1998), Me, Myself & Irene (2000) (alongside Jim Carrey with whom she got more than acquainted off-set) and Nurse Betty (2000). They cute, quirky blonde almost had an embarrassing moment at the Golden Globes in 2001 when she won for Nurse Betty and almost missed it because she was in the bathroom.
Bridget Jones And All That Jazz
One more blockbuster came her way when she was cast in the British comedy Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) alongside Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Renée packed on the pounds to play the eccentric and love sick (a dangerous combination) title character—she earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance.
Renée was on fire when she picked another box office stunner, Chicago, the following year. Renée sang and danced her way to a second Oscar nomination for her role as the murderess Roxie Hart. But forget nominations, a year later Renée took one of those golden men home for her outstanding performance in Cold Mountain in 2003.
While filming Cold Mountain, Renée surprised more than a few fans when she found an unlikely suitor in The White Stripes rocker Jack White. The two dated for two years before calling it quits. The following year, she met and quickly married country singing superstar Kenny Chesney, but the two had their relationship annulled four months later in September citing “fraud.”
After a slew of failed relationships and one marriage that was over faster than you can say Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, it seemed like Renée finally found lasting love with the chiseled and tan Bradley Cooper. Taking a cue from her past high-profile romances, the two are notoriously private and rarely seen together in public. But even though the couple managed to keep their private lives away from the tabloids’ wandering eyes, the pair didn’t last and called it quits in March of 2011. Renee was reportedly ready to settle down while Bradley was just hitting stride with his leading male bachelor status.
With her share of hits, awards and coveted romantic conquests, Renée is enjoying success on her own terms.
Defining Quote “I never say never about anything, because I look back on my own personal history and it shocks me.”
